    Teeth whitening gel

Teeth whitening gels all contain the active ingredient Carbamide peroxide in varying concentrations. Carbamide peroxide breaks down when activated into hydrogen peroxide, which lightens the teeth. Teeth whitening gels that are supplied over the counter have a much lower concentration of Carbamide peroxide and are therefore less effective. If you are buying teeth bleaching gels on-line, there are things that you need to be aware of. Read more...

    • It should be supplied un-activated. If the product is not mixed together to activate it has a very short shelf life and will be unlikely to effective.
    • Do you know the state of your teeth? Leaking fillings, existing dental work leading to mismatching and erosion areas can lead to big problems.
    • Trays need to fit teeth very well
    • Bleach should NOT be used when pregnant or breast-feeding

    Teeth Whitening Kit

Teeth whitening kits still require a dental check-up and making of special custom formed trays to get the best result. Teeth bleaching kits found on the internet that provide at-home forming trays and already activated Carbamide peroxide will provide limited effect for even the most porous teeth.

The Nite white refill teeth bleaching kit available at Dental Care Products is effective because it can be used with your custom formed trays and it is not activated until it is dispensed into your trays. It is also viscous and safe. Teeth bleaching does not change the colour of existing fillings and dental work so you must be careful that you do not end up with a mismatch result.

Teeth whitening is one of the most inexpensive, conservative and effective ways to improve your smile but without the right advice and treatment options you can end up very disappointed and with less than optimal results.

    Teeth Whitening Products

There are a variety of teeth whitening products on the market today. Some are effective and some are not. All should be used with caution as they can be harmful if used incorrectly. Over the counter products which include toothpastes, and mouthwashes contain only very small amounts of the active ingredients and are not in contact with the teeth for long enough to have any substantial effect. Other over the counter products such as teeth whitening strips and pens have the potential to be effective in limited cases but TGA guidelines have prohibited there use in Australia because of the potential side effects when used inappropriately.

I am in the process of trying to overcome this to provide this option for my customers. Internet supplied boil and bite trays are the most worrisome as they can be effective but without adequate knowledge they can also cause some disasters. The trays result in swallowing a lot of bleach which is not tested or regulated adequately, it is often very acidic and free-flowing.

Take-home from the dentist bleaching trays and medicaments provide the most effective, safe and predictable results. Your teeth are checked for potential problems, trays made that fit your teeth exactly and the appropriate concentration of fresh active solution is supplied. In-office bleaching is also an option but it is expensive and often needs home bleaching as a continuation for the best results.
