Why is cleaning between your teeth so important?
|
Toothbrushes do not clean in between your teeth. Plaque accumulates easily in between teeth. Gum problems are more common in between teeth. Floss is the most commonly used, but it has been shown that your interdental cleaner should be tailored to your individual needs. Dental floss of tape is most effective when the gum problems are minimal and the space is small. Floss or dental tape should be cleaning 2-3mm under the gum. Interproximal brushes such as the end-tufted brush, piksters and butler brushes are excellent for any space which is larger and/or gum disease is present. The largest brush possible which fits into the space should be used. This way the biofilm (plaque) is disturbed and is unable to damage the gums.
