How Do  Choose My Toothpaste?

There is now a very large range of toothpastes on the market today and your choice can be difficult.

  • It may help by eliminating from your choice all toothpastes that contain whitening ingredients or abrasive ingredients such as baking soda. The whitening toothpastes are generally ineffective in whitening your teeth and prolonged use of the active ingredient is not recommended. Toothpastes that contain baking soda can abrade your teeth if used extensively. See our information on whitening We do recommend the use of regular fluoride toothpastes (or low dose for children and high doses for adults with high level of decay).

  • The range of toothpastes for sensitive teeth is extensive and we have chosen the few that we consider most effective.

We have chosen toothpastes for recommendation that we know are effective and that we use personally. As long as you take into account the above recommendations then your own personal taste and preference will determine which of these toothpastes you should buy.

It is important to remember that the toothpaste itself is the least important aspect of toothbrushing. The mechanical action of the toothbrush bristles on you teeth and gums is the action that removes the bacteria.
